ePrivacy Regulation update: TTE meeting

Brussels 3^rd and 4^th December, 2018

The Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Telecommunication) has met, and much anticipated updates on ePrivacy Regulation have failed to materialise. Unfortunately, it looks like we have been left in a ‘holding pattern’ waiting for Ministers to complete ‘further work’ based on an ‘exchange of views’ about a question which we have not been made privy to.

Not particularly helpful for businesses trying to plan their sales/marketing strategies, especially those involving the adoption of new electronic communication platforms and tools, programmatic marketing and B2B email marketing based on legitimate interests.

I expect the EU Parliament will be unimpressed with progress made by the ‘Council’.
